Coca-Cola uses PET plastic made of sugarcane for the production of its new eco-buttons made

Coca-Cola introduced the world’s first plastic bottle made completely from plant materials. A feature of any bottle of polyethyleneterftalate (PET) is the possibility of its reuse, which reduces the amount of waste that goes to landfills. In most countries, PET products are coordinated by an identification number knocked out on the subject (it is, as a rule, on the bottom of the object and looks like a triangle of arrows with a number 1 in the center). Packaging materials for food (and not only) made of PET are preferable, because such a container is safer, easier, not to mention the fact that it can be repeatedly processed.

Unlike an ordinary PET bottle, the one that was presented by Coca-Cola at the exhibition in Milan is made completely of plant materials, which makes it even more stable and environmentally friendly. This bottle was called Plantbottle (plant bottle). The new packaging equipment of Coca-Cola factories will pack the main products into a new fully processed container made from fully renewable plant materials.

Coca-Cola claims that the new bottle is the best alternative to an ordinary PET bottle, which is also good, but Plantbottle is even better. Development was patented. The Plantbottle packaging methodology is based on the transformation of natural sugars from plants into ingredients for the preparation of PET plastic. The packaging looks, operates and processes as traditional PET packaging, but provides less harm to the planet and its resources.

Development Director of The Coca-Cola Pany, says the packaging equipment of the plant as a whole is ready to boast of an innovative portfolio of ideas. Developing its packaging sector, the company uses constantly changing technologies and responsibly approaches the sources of materials on a plant basis.

Koka-Cola introduced the first Plantbottle bottle at the World-Expo exhibition in Milan. Representatives of Coca-Cola noticed that they produced their new packaging thanks to the Visconsin biotechnology company Visconsin and their materials. Far Eastern New Century Corp also worked with firms. And they converted the Xille BioFormPX into a bio-Pat resin together.

It is worth noting that Virent and Coca-Cola have been working together since 2011, developing biotechnology. In 2014, Kola additionally invested in the technological expansion of the Virent plant in order to develop processes for obtaining BioFormPX in large numbers.

Coca-Cola customers will not feel much difference between the old and new packaging. Moreover, not many people know that the previous version of PET bottles for cola products was made by 30% of plant components. New bottles are completely on a plant basis. Nevertheless, when new bottles enter the market, people can be sure that Coca-Cola packaging has become cleaner and safer for the environment. It is believed that the transition of Coca-Cola to Plantbottle will save the planet from more than 315 thousand metric tons of carbon dioxide per year.

At the moment, for the production of Plantbottle, Coca-Cola uses sugarcane and waste of sugarcane production process. The company will continue to invest in the development of packaging equipment and packaging materials.
